Getting your kids to do their homework can be difficult. They come home from a long day and all they want to do is play or hang out with friends. The last thing they want is more work. Sometimes getting your kids to just sit still is a challenge and getting them to listen to you when it comes to homework can be a real battle. There are ways to help them to do their homework though. There are things you can do to make sure that they get it done and even enjoy it if you’re lucky!

Let them know they are not alone
This can be harder on some parents than on others but it can really help to be there when your child does their homework. This brings them help and support so that they know they can do their work with you. If you can’t be there the whole time they are working than make yourself available for questions and pop in when you can to check on them. Having that support makes them feel like they can do it.
Keep a schedule
Know what all of your child’s assignments are and when they are due. Most will be simple and due the next day but others will be projects and reports that take time and planning. Start by making sure homework is the first thing done after school. Have them start with the subjects in which they excel to get them out of the way. From there, work on things like projects that take longer and plan a certain amount of time to do it each day so it isn’t all at once. This will make it seem easier and faster. Hopefully these planning lessons with stick with them as they study higher grades on their own.
Be interactive
Lastly, remember that the brain can work with simple information but demonstrations of what they have learned or are learning does help the process a lot. For example, when your child comes home with simple division, to you it is simple but to them it is nonsense. Use something fun like fruit loops to break a number of fruit loops into groups of a number to demonstrate how division actually works and what it really is. This kind of learning will reinforce the knowledge and give them a deeper understanding of the subject.
